ManoMotion technology powers the first ever machine learning trained industrial safety system with concept level certification by Germany’s BG/IFA and hopes to save hundreds of hand injuries in the coming years.

Pressrelease Stockholm the 9th of September 2021. ManoMotion, a deep tech pioneer focusing on next generation of user interaction, using hand tracking, today announced that one of their customers, Minden-based (Germany) Altendorf GmbH, successfully pre-certified their groundbreaking safety concept by IFA (Institute for Occupational Safety and Health).

Altendorf GmbH is a world leading provider of machines for the processing of solid wood, panel material, plastics and aluminum, including industry grade sawing machines. In close collaboration with ManoMotion, Altendorf has integrated ManoMotion patented and award-winning hand tracking technology in their Hand Guard Safety System. The system detects hands that are at risk of being injured by the saw and automatically lowers the saw instantaneously.

  • We are proud to provide the market with a blend of cutting-edge machine learning trained technology, provided by ManoMotion and Altendorf’s world class industry grade wood sawing machines, says Peter Schwenk, CEO of Altendorf. He also comments, – The collaboration with ManoMotion, using machine learning algorithms combined with sensor technology as part of our product development has made us feel confident that this represents more and exciting features to come.

Altendorf has announced Q4 as the planned shipping date for the Hand Guard Safety System.

  • Hand detection, using ManoMotion hand tracking technology has the potential to help reduce hand injuries in a multitude of areas, besides sawing machines, and represents an exciting business opportunity for ManoMotion. Altendorf is an amazing example of a traditional business adopting new technology to serve their customers even better. And hand detection as a safety feature is only one of many possible applications. We have already today identified several other exciting application areas, including areas where we can use hand tracking as touchless ways of controlling and give instructions in an industry setting, says Lars Österberg, CEO of ManoMotion.

The IFA certification includes also relevant CE certification for the full system and the Hand Guard Safety system has also won the OWL Innovation Award.
